町長の大使館訪問・GG普及活動

2018.04.03 (Tue)

大使館1

Mayor Miyawaki of Yurihama and Sports Division Director Mr. Konishi of the Tottori Prefectural Government visited the Embassy of India to Japan, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, the Embassy of New Zealand to Japan, and the Embassy of New Zealand to Japan this past February to promote ground golf, the 2018 Yurihama International Ground Golf Open, and the 2021 Kansai World Masters Games while building new friendships and connections.

Ground golf is a life-long sport that was developed in the former village of Tomari (now part of Yurihama) in Japan’s Tottori Prefecture. Built on the concept of bringing people together and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle, it was designed to be simple enough for people of all ages to enjoy, regardless of their background or athletic ability.

国際GG大会2017 報告

2017.12.19 (Tue)

GG大会00

Yurihama’s 3rd annual International Ground Golf Open was successfully held last month at Shiokaze no Oka in the Tomari district of Yurihama. Over 100 ground golf enthusiasts hailing from 11 countries across the globe gathered together with players from, or currently living in, Japan for a weekend of ground golf, international exchange, and fun.

GG大会08A special welcome reception and social mixer was held for the GG Open participants on 19 October 2017 (Thursday), at the Suimeiso Hotel in Yurihama, where those who had participated in previous tournaments met up with old friends, first-time participants made new acquaintances, and everyone enjoyed

The ground golf open kicked off the next day with an opening ceremony, with remarks from the event chairman and mayor of Yurihama, Mr. Masamichi Miyawaki, and head of the Japan Ground Golf Association, Mr. Kazuo Sonoyama. During their breaks in-between rounds, players were also able to enjoy a free matcha green tea service, tonjiru soup (made with pork and vegetables), and the beautiful view from atop the hill.

Gameplay was followed by a small forum where representatives from Korea, China, Taiwan, France, Spain, Poland, and Mongolia met to discuss the creation of an international organization, issues regarding access to equipment across the globe, and upcoming tournaments and events.

For the first time this year, the tournament was held across two days, with participants completing 4 courses (8 holes each). Although there was some cloudy and lightly rainy weather on Day 2 of the tournament, players were able to enjoy gameplay while making connections with the other participants, as well as a raffle following the awards ceremony.
