TennyonoHi2Happy Tennyo no He!
October 24 (10 ten 24 ni yo (Japanese)→ nyo) has been unofficially declared to be a day honoring the celestial maidens (heavenly beings similar to angels) that appear in stories and legends throughout Japan.

Tennyo no He was first introduced in connection with the 2nd Tennyo Summit, held in Takaishi (Osaka Prefecture) in 2016.

The first Tennyo Summit was held in Yurihama (Tottori Prefecture) in 2014. Attended by the leaders of cities and towns with local celestial maiden legends, including Takaishi (Osaka Prefecture), Kurayoshi (Tottori Prefecture), Kawamata (Fukushima Prefecture), Nagahama (Shiga Prefecture), Kyotango (Kyoto Prefecture), Ginowan (Okinawa Prefecture), and Yurihama, the panel discussed various topics including their local legends and related anecdotes as well as revitalization and promotional efforts that utilize their local legends.TennyonoHi3

宇宙桜のつどい

2017.10.03 (Tue)

SpaceSakura1

As part of the Kibo Sakura (Hope Cherry Blossoms) program, the town of Niyodogawa in Japan’s Kochi Prefecture is sending Yurihama space hyotan sakura (gourd-shaped cherry blossom) seedlings.

In Yurihama, these sakura trees will serve both as a symbol of recovery from the 2016 Central Tottori Earthquake, as well as represent tennyo sakura in relation to the area’s Legend of the Celestial Maiden’s Heavenly Robes, as Yurihama looks towards the future.

People of all ages are welcome to attend the Presentation Ceremony and keynote speech by Mr. Yoichi Hasegawa. The event is free to attend, so we invite you to come and join in the excitement! Attendees will receive Space Morning Glory seeds and will have the chance to taste-test some space food.
