田後笠・Tajiri Kasa

 These kasa, or conical coolie hats, have been hand-woven using straw sedge in the Tajiri area of Yurihama since ancient times. Until the Taishō period, these highquality straw hats were shipped all across the Chūgoku region; however, due to the subsequent popularity of synthetic goods, its manufacturing ceased. Nowadays, these straw hats are produced only as a folk craft in small quantities.
