Kiyoko Kurihara was a poet born in Yurihama’s Hashizu area and was the younger sister of cancer researcher Warō Nakahara. In 1913, she began training under Nobutsuna Sasaki (a well-renowned Japanese poet and literary scholar) at the age of 16 and quickly made a name for herself. Unheard of in those days, she released her first anthology when she was only 22. She later took up writing novels before working as an editor for the literary journal Kokoro no Hana (Flower of the Heart) from around 1950.
