Ronin Dance 浪人踊

2014.07.14 (Mon)

This dance, a dignified four-centuries’ old traditional folk performing art, was passed down to Matsuzaki’s Third Ward. It is a memorial dance for the warriors from the Warring States period, but was originally a Buddhist folk dance. It is currently performed at the Suigosai Festival [link – JP], where members of the preservation association as well as children dress in black clothes and braided hats to appear as the original ronin warriors. The dance has been designated an important cultural property by Tottori Prefecture.
