Aloha Shirts アロハシャツ

2014.06.09 (Mon)

This summer-season custom in the old town of Hawai began as a way to celebrate the sister-city relationship with Hawaii County in America. Even after the town merger which created Yurihama, the custom of wearing aloha shirts in the summer months still continues among local businesses and banks, and with town councillors and public servants. In Hawaiian, “aloha” is used for various greetings including both “welcome” and “farewell”, as well as to mean “love” and “affection”.
