In the Edo period, Hashizu was a bustling port town which shipped out rice and other goods from ten storehouses belonging to the Tottori clan. At the time, different clans owned storehouses like these, which helped them establish a foothold in the local economy’s commodity market. There are only a few left in the whole country, and Hashizu has three of them. These are designated as a Tottori prefecture special cultural asset.
