Yurihama Town Flower: Touteiran (Speedwell)・トウテイラン(まちの花)

Starting in August and continuing until October, a single floral ear will sprout from the tail-like appendages at the end of the touteiran  (speedwell) stem. Occasionally, multiple ears will bloom, giving the flower a beautiful purple hue. Due to concerns about the plant’s extinction, its seeds have been preserved. The plants have been seen in the wild in only three places: Oki Islands, Kyotango, and our own Yurihama.
